Welcome to the Living Well podcast sponsored by the Village in Howard.
Today we are excited to have Cheryl Neely and Karen Ray in our podcast studio. They mange the monthly Happy Hour program for our members and non-members.
It is one of most popular programs. There is a waiting list every month.
Cheryl and Karen will talk about
WHEN they became involved in managing this program,
HOW they choose a different restaurant every month, and
WHY they think this is a good social program for seniors.
The term “Happy Hour” originated in the U.S. Navy around 1913 for scheduled time for sailors to relax and socialize.
- The Navy "happy hours," featured entertainment like boxing matches, music, dancing, and movies to improve morale and relieve the monotony of sea life.
Nowadays, bars and restaurants offer “Happy Hour” when they serve discounted drinks and appetizers during specific hours to boost business, making it a popular social tradition.
