HOSTS: Mark Toohey and Joy Cheung
GUESTS: Duane St.Clair and Jenny Davis (Both are TVIH members)
TOPIC: Meet A Foster Parent and A Host Parent of Exchange Students
Mark and I are excited to welcome two special guests today to our podcast studio, Duane St. Clair and Jenny Davis. Both are members of the village in Howard. The title of our podcast today is “Meet a foster parent and a host parent of foreign exchange students”.
Duane and his wife Janis were foster parents to 12 children for 10 years in the 1990s. They worked with the Howard County Department of Social Services and Baptist Family and Services. In addition to their own children, they raised teenage girls who had complicated problems. They even adopted two of the foster children.
Starting in 1992, for more than 10 years, Jenny and her husband Richard were host parents to 10 international students from all over the world. They worked with the American Field Service, AFS. The exchange students stayed in their home for one year.
Most presents can barely manage the challenges of parenting their own biological children. Duane and Jenny are the very special people among us who raised not only their own children, but also children not their own. Today they will share with us their heartwarming stories, love and sacrifices, the extraordinary challenges and rewards.
