About this event

Learn to make memorable music using drums, wooden blocks and bells.

A drum circle is an interactive, generally improvised musical gathering where people sit in a circle playing drums and percussion to foster community, reduce stress, and promote wellness.

Come to enjoy making music together!

A drum circle is an instant rhythm experience for all ages and abilities –

Frequently called in-the-moment music-making, drum circle participants play drums and/or hand percussion instruments.  Participants engage together to create a group rhythm and cooperate in rhythm games.  The circle is moderated by a facilitator who guides the group in rhythms and rhythm-based activities.

Nellie Hill, an experienced facilitator, will teach the simple techniques. All instruments are provided. No musical experience is needed.

Open to TVIH members and 55+ residents in Howard County.

Registration is required. The maximum capacity is 30.

Our Leader:
Nellie Hill, Playful Spirit Adventures, is a Remo endorsed
professional Drum Circle Facilitator. She earned her MA in Music
Education from the University of Maryland, with post-graduate
studies at Duquesne and Villanova. She served many years as a
teaching assistant for Will Schmid for his World Music Drumming
Workshop. Retired from teaching music in Howard County,
Maryland, Nellie now spends much of her time doing school
residencies and community events, spreading the value of
facilitation and improvisation in the music curriculum.
She is the co-author, along with Arthur Hull, of the Drum Circle
Facilitators Handbook, which is now published in five languages.
