50/50 RAFFLE DRAWING - SAT. MAY 4th - TVIH OFFICE Purchase Tickets
This national exhibit returns to Howard County after traveling to Boston, Cleveland, Los Angeles, New York and dozens of other locations across the country.
The interactive exhibit led by a guide, helps to explain why a federal housing act of the mid 1930’s contributed significantly to systemic racism by establishing legal guidelines for who was able to obtain mortgages and purchase homes in specific neighborhoods. Lenders had to consider these standards if they wanted FHA insurance for their loans, and while repealed several years ago, the racial discrimination shaped the demographic and wealth patterns of American communities including Howard County.
This session will be held in the Central Library’s new Equity Resource Center which is a comprehensive treasure of dedicated materials about equity. Mask is required! Meet in the Equity Resource Center located on the second floor. Accessible building and chairs available at exhibit as needed.
