A traditional Japanese haiku is a three-line poem with seventeen syllables, written in a 5/7/5 syllable count. Often focusing on images from nature, haiku emphasizes simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression. Join us for a second session of a very enjoyable poetry share. In our first session, we tried composing and sharing our own haiku as well as those of Asian and American haiku authors. We will continue to share our own compositions and those of the masters. Whether you have written your own poetry (haiku or other), want to share poems you love or just want to listen, you are welcome!
If you are thinking of joining us:
We determined that it was best to share them in writing so participants could read as well as hear them read. Some ambitious folks accompanied their haiku with pictures!
