Joy Cheung:
Presenting “First Generation Immigrant, My Aunt Laura Yu”
Joy Cheung will present a slide show about her aunt’s journey from China to the US. Aunt Laura immigrated to the US from China in 1953, before the US Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965 abolished the quota of Chinese immigrants.
In 2015, Joy visited her 94-year-old Aunt Laura, Joy’s mother’s younger sister. Joy will describe how she helped Aunt Laura to write a 36-page memoir based on the material that Joy collected during the 2-day visit in Seattle. Aunt Laura was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and computer programmer. Joy will tell the story of Aunt Laura’s extraordinary life.
This program was presented at the TVIH center by Joy on Jan.10, 2020. A few TVIH friends missed Joy’s talk and wanted to hear the story. Therefore, the same program will be presented again.
There will be time for questions after the slide show.
